Has the mystery of the X Factor twist finally been solved?

The gossip-machine has been going crazy ever since it was revealed that the first of the X Factor live shows – which takes place this weekend – would contain a shock twist.

Speculation has been rife, with several different possibilities circulating on the web and chat forums. Some were convinced that each judge would be permitted a ‘wild-card’ contestant, which could see previously eliminated hopefuls such as Jade Richards and Terry Winstanley return to the competition.

However, a show insider told The Sun newspaper that this would not be happening: “Each judge already has four acts. There is no room for any more. So Jade, or any of the other acts already eliminated, won’t be coming back.”

Others felt that axed judge Cheryl Cole would be returning or that show creator and former head-judge Simon Cowell would make a surprise appearance.

Now it seems that the secret of the ‘twist’ may have been solved – with sources suggesting that it refers to a double elimination.

A source from the show allegedly told the Daily Record: “The contestants don’t know yet but there will definitely be more than one of them going out this weekend.”

Facing a double elimination would definitely raise the stakes for the final 16 contestants! However, we’ll just have to wait until Saturday to find out if this latest rumour is just speculation – or if it’s true – and more than one act will face the chop.

Make sure you tune in to the X Factor LIVE on ITV this Saturday at 7.30pm!
