Team members at Mecca Bingo in Oldbury reached dizzy new heights when they scaled Wales’ highest mountain, Snowdon, to raise money for charity.

Led by General Manager Designate, Nick De Bear ‘Grylls’, a team of 15 reached the 1,085 metre summit in 7 hours, despite battling freezing temperatures, severe wind and even snow!

The successful team raised almost £3,200 in sponsorship for Marie Curie Cancer Care, Mecca Bingo’s chosen charity for the year. All the money raised will help the charity to provide free nursing care and support for terminally ill people and their families. Every £20 raised will help provide an hour of Marie Curie nursing care in local communities across the UK.

Andrew Smith, General Manager at Mecca Oldbury, said, “I can’t tell you how proud I am of the team. We knew we were in for a tough time when the weather forecast predicted severe rain, wind, snow and below freezing temperatures but it was a fantastic experience and not one single person dropped out.

“We want to thank the customers at the club for digging deep to support our fundraising efforts. We are delighted to have raised £3,200 through this one activity and it certainly made the sore feet and legs more bearable!”
