It may seem like just yesterday that the X factor hit our TV screens, and took over our lives for four months every year – but this is actually the EIGHTH series of the singing competition! Not only does this make us feel really old, but it also got us thinking about previous contestants, and all the great – and TERRIBLE auditions we’ve seen over the years!

So, as an X factor themed treat just for you we’ve collected together all the winners first auditions – before the world knew who they were, and when they were just one in a thousand hopefuls competing for the X factor crown.

Cast your mind back and enjoy – oh and keep an eye on Simon Cowell – we’re pretty sure he’s made of plastic or some equally durable material – apart from teeth that just keep getting whiter, the man hasn’t changed a single bit in 8 years!

Steve Brookstein

Who can forget Steve Brookstein, the first ever winner of the X factor? Well…everyone apparently. The singer was dropped by Sony BMG just eight months after winning the X factor, and has had limited success since despite forming his own record label, and releasing a second album – which failed to chart. Now spends most of his time being angry on twitter, and is writing a book about the X factor. Let it go Steve!

Shayne Ward

After winning the X factor in 2005, Shayne went on to release the fastest selling album of all time! Two albums later, however, and he was dropped by SyCo Music – after his latest single reached only number 15 in the UK charts. Oh dear! Still, his first audition was good…

Leona Lewis

Leona won the third series of the X factor, and has gone on to enjoy huge success in both the UK and USA. In fact, she’s a multi-platinum selling artist and three time Grammy Award nominee – watch her first audition and it’s not hard to see why – wow that girl can sing!

Leon Jackson

Winner of the fourth X factor instalment, Leon’s first single ‘When you Believe’ went to Number 1… and that was about as successful as he got. Yet another winner who was dropped from Simon Cowell’s record label – there’s a bit of a pattern developing here Simon! However, Leon is now signed to RCA records, so we may not have seen the last of him yet.

Alexandra Burke

Alexandra shot to fame after winning series five of the X factor and is currently signed to not one, not two – but THREE record labels. She’s also been nominated for 3 Brit Awards and has sold over 4 million records in the UK.

Joe McElderry

Here’s wee Joe McElderry’s first audition. When Joe won the sixth series of the X factor by the largest amount of votes EVER it was easy to see him with a bright future. Sadly, his contract with SyCo was not renewed. However, Joe went on to win television series ‘Popstar to Operastar’ and is now signed to Decca Records. Go Joe!

Matt Cardle

Matt achieved the standard UK Christmas number one with ‘When we collide’ after winning the X factor last year, and is set to release his debut album ‘Letters’ on the October 17. We can’t wait! Click here to watch his auditon.

Here at My Gala we love everything about the X factor! Luckily for us, Gala bingo have TONS of amazing X factor themed games for you to play!

See if you can cope with the pressure of Bootcamp bingo – there may not be a million-pound singing contract up for grabs – but there is a grand prize of 20k! amazing!

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from X factor winner Matt Cardle, so long in fact that we’d almost forgotten what he looked like.  But never fear, Matt is back and he’s announced the details of his upcoming album!

The debut album from the 28-year-old is called Letters, and Matt looks all brooding and windswept on its cover. The record is due to hit the shelves on the 17th of October, so get ready for a performance from the star on this years X factor live shows – we can’t wait!

Apparently Matt’s album is: “Very accessible, but also very powerful and emotive” – sounds good to us! Will you be picking up a copy when it comes out? Or are you more interested in the new X factor talent that will be appearing on out TV screens soon?
