Nikki is a regular player at our Mecca Southend Club and is often found in our chat rooms – you may know her as NikkiW88. She is donating her winnings from bingo to a very special cause. Nikki often tweets @Meccabingo about her progress and her visits to her local club, so we asked her to tell us about the Charity and why she is donating to it.
“I first became aware of one very special little boy through the world of Twitter. Being a supporter of Fulham FC, I follow a number of the players and their wives. It was when Danny Murphy’s (captain) wife Joanna Murphy, a CLIC Sargent supporter, posted a tweet regarding Joseph that I decided to take a look at his Twitter page.
“Whilst reading through a few tweets I knew there was something life changing about this boy. I decided to click on a link to a day to day blog of his life that his mum and dad had set up. It wasn’t until reading this from beginning to end that I realised quite what was wrong with him and how serious it is to his life. Joseph was diagnosed with Infant Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, such a rare form of cancer at an age of just 6 months old back in April 2011. Despite the condition he has, he always manages to bring out the smiles, scoffing his favourite food in the world, Jaffa Cakes and being the cutest little boy.
“Joseph’s mum Celine, dad Steve and big brother Isaac try to do the best they can for Joseph to have the most normal life possible when he is not in hospital having treatment. This is done with the help of the CLIC Sargent charity. This charity is designed to help families like Joseph’s who have young children suffering with cancer or leukaemia to be able to do normal things together like every other family. This is not possible without the help of people who kindly donate money to the charity.
“As Joseph touched my heart (yes his cuteness did help) I decided to give my support by making a donation and then when going to Mecca Bingo (Southend being my local) that any money I won, part would be donated to Joseph Bowen’s CLIC Sargent fund as I want this little boy and any other families in the same situation to be able to have the happiest and most normal lives they possibly can. Any amount of money no matter how big or small given to Joseph’s fund is always a help and the Bowens truly do appreciate it.
Love Nikki x”
