It’s been a weekend FULL of Reality TV, with two of the biggest shows in TV history competing for your attention. Yes, both Big Brother and the X Factor are back!
But who gets your vote – Do you prefer Gary, Tulisa, Dermot and their crew of wannabe singers? Or would you rather sit back and watch the likes of Kerry Katona, Amy Childs and Jedward preforming crazy tasks and gossiping about each other in the sauna?
We know, it’s a hard decision, which is why we’ve decided to help you out – with our helpful guide to the best, and the worst, of both shows this weekend.
Is love in the air for Amy and Lucien?
Watched by: 5.1 million (launch show)
Best moment: The show has only been on for three days, and already we’re finding it hard to choose our favourite moment. Kerry’s ‘diva’ tantrum, that had the other housemates looking on in horror? Jedward using a WHOLE bottle of washing up liquid for their bath? No, we think Lucien’s lady drama stole the show this weekend! The 19-year-old actor admitted that he has the hots for Pamela – who’s old enough to be his mum – but there’s clearly a bit of a spark between him and Amy too… what’s going to happen? We can’t wait to find out!
Worst moment: Poor Kerry failed the task set for her by Big Bro when her fellow housemates voted Jedward as the biggest divas in the house, rather than her. As punishment, Kez is up for eviction this week – and had to choose two others to face the chop with her! A tearful Kerry spent ages dithering, and then had to face Bobby and Sally, who she eventually nominated. Isn’t Big Bro mean?!
CRINGE moment: Darryn’s ‘six pack’. We have to say, our eyes nearly popped out of our skulls when we saw Mr.Papparazzi’s sticky-outy abs as he chilled in the Sauna. He’s doesn’t have the most athletic build we’ve ever seen, and yet he seemed to be sporting a rather impressive six-pack! He was questioned by Paddy on the matter, and admitted he’s had sculpting surgery, to give the impression of a buff bod. Cringe!
What we can’t wait to see: More tasks! The housemates took part in an Ancient Egypt themed challenge this weekend, which involved them being mummified and playing musical chairs – all under the watchful eye of billionaire Mohammed Al-fayed – random, but brilliant! We want more like that, BB!
Overall rating: 7/10
The X Factor
Goldie gets a little too close to head Judge Gary!
Watched by: 12.6 million
Best moment: 16-year-old Janet Devlin belted out an amazing rendition of ‘Your Song’ by Elton John – that had the judges on the verge of tears! Her beautiful voice has the bookies tipping the Belfast lass as an early favourite to win the show, and we have to say we agree!
Worst moment: It all kicked off when George Gerasimou, 19, sang his version of ‘Gimme Everything’. George is no stranger to the competition – he auditioned in 2009, throwing his microphone to the ground when his singing was criticized. The gobby youngster claimed that he had “matured”, but this proved to be untrue when judge Tulisa received a torrent of abuse after she told him the judges had “heard enough.” Gerasimou shouted: “You’re some scumbag trying to replace Cheryl. Some scumbag from the block.” Not nice!
CRINGE moment: Singer Goldie had us squirming in embarrassment as she wrapped her leg around head judge Gary Barlow’s neck during her audition! Her dance routine may have been pretty cringe-worthy, but the 48-year-old must have done something right, as she got through to bootcamp!
What we can’t wait to see: More of Gary’s surprisingly funny putdowns! Call us judgemental, but we had this idea that Mr Barlow was well, a bit boring. You know, the kind who settles down for a game of scrabble on a Friday night in his slippers. Well boy did he prove us wrong! Not only was Gary brilliantly firm with contestants, but he made us giggle more than once. Which is more than Simon’s ever done!
Overall rating: 9/10 – We had been a bit worried that the departure of both Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole might leave the show lacking sparkle – but we were wrong! The new judges were brilliant, and gave the show a new lease of life.
So there you have it! Here at MyGala, we STILL can’t quite decide between the two – although there is something about the X Factor that we just can’t get enough of – but we do know one thing for certain…we’re going to be watching A LOT of television for the next few weeks! Will you be doing the same?
And, if you love the idea of a battle, why not play Battle of the Clubs at Gala Bingo? There’s a massive 8k up for grabs each week, so get those tickets and let the games commence! All details can be found here. Happy playing!
