Hi Jan! So, first things first – where are you from?

I’m from Aberdeen in Scotland. It’s a lovely place – very cold in the winter though!

How long have you been a CM and how did you get the job?

I became a CM in February so I’ve been doing it for about six months now. I’d been playing in my local Gala club for about four years before I heard about the job – I’d wanted to be a chat moderator for a while so I applied straight away! There were quite a lot of people interviewing for the role, so I was so happy when I got it.

Tell us about your first bingo experience?

My first bingo experience was quite a few years ago now – but I won 2 lines, full house and the jackpot the first couple of times I played – about £3000! I’ve loved it ever since. I won a fair few times at Gala before becoming a CM too!

What do you like most about being a chat moderator?

I love being a CM. I’m paid to talk about anything and everything! When I was a roomie I loved chatting anyway, so to be on the other side is brilliant. My favourite aspect of the job is probably getting to know the roomies – we talk about such different topics everyday! Sometimes I feel a bit like an agony aunt, chatting to people about their problems, other times we’ll all discuss our favourite films – the variety is great.

What’s creating the biggest buzz in the chat rooms?

People are really excited about the Ultimate bingo championship – a lot of people wanted the chance to go to Gibraltar! No lose bingo is always popular too – although with Gala there’s always so much going on, and so many exciting new games and promotions to discuss.

What’s the strangest question you have been asked in a chat?

Someone once asked me if I worked from home, and when I said I did – asked if I ever get dressed! I had to point out that I do Skype the Gala TV gang, so it might be a bit strange if I were in my PJ’s. I haven’t been asked anything really strange though…not yet anyway.

What do you like doing outside of work?

I have two children, aged 14 and 4, so they keep me on my toes! I love spending time with them. I also love watching films. I prefer rom-coms and films like the 40-year-old Virgin, but my boyfriend likes horror films – I’m not such a fan, I have to cover my eyes!

Chat Moderator Nicola tells us about life in sunny Spain, and why she loves her job!

Hi Nicola! How long have you been a CM and how did you get the job?

I Started with Gala in November 2010, I already knew another CM on our team and she suggested me for the position.

Where are you from?

I’m from Warrington, Cheshire but I currently live in Spain on the Costa del Sol.

Lovely! Tell us a bit about your first bingo experience.

My first bingo experience was at Gala in Warrington and I won the last house on a Sunday night -£1000!I was well chuffed.

So, do you enjoy being a chat moderator? What part do you like the most?

I love my job as its perfect for me – where else can you meet such fantastic people and watch the joy bingo brings? It’s great. I love the chat with the roomies too, they are fantastic and the buzz when we have a big win is amazing. The atmosphere is brilliant.

What is creating the biggest buzz on the site?

Battle of the Clubs is a great game and seems to go down well with the roomies. The Cash Climber has been won quite a lot recently so that’s getting talked about a lot too.

What is the strangest question you have been asked in chat?

“Do you like chocolate and chilli?” – I can’t ever imagine eating chocolate and chilli… very strange!

What do you like doing outside of work?

I love socialising with mates and going down to my local port for a few drinks and some nice food.  I go to the waterpark a lot at this time of year too and there are some lovely beaches here! I try to go to the beach at least a couple of times a week.  That’s the beauty of living in Spain – there’s always something different to do because the weather is so great. Of course I also spend a lot of time with my two children, we especially love going in to Gibraltar for the ice-skating and the usual girlie thing – shopping!
