In the search for flawless looking skin, shiny hair, or new methods of detoxing there seems to be new spa treatments popping up all the time.  Most people will stick with aromatherapy massages, facials or maybe a hot stone treatment but have a look at some of these unusual ‘innovative’ treatments.

Cryotherapy

Aren’t we cold enough already in the UK?? Well some spa-goers like to experience ever colder temperatures in a cryogenic chamber.  Not quite the relaxing treatment that many people seek from a spa, it is only possible to stay inside the chamber for a few minutes as any longer could cause hypothermia or death.  It is supposed to detox the body and strengthen the immune system but is it really worth the risk of death?!

Fire Cupping

Fire cupping is the traditional Chinese method of acupressure and has famous fans such as Gwyneth Paltrow.  For this treatment glass cups are heated up and placed at certain points of the body creating a suction effect but also leaving circular bruises that you can then show off to your friends from your treatment.

Geisha Facial (aka bird poo facial)

Ooh lovely.  Not the glamorous facial you would probably like but if you are willing to try anything to brighten and heal tired skin then this is for you.  It is an Eastern inspired treatment that uses Nightingale droppings which contains important enzymes for your skin.  Remember to keep your mouth shut!!!

Czech Beer Bath

The Chodovar family brewery in the Czech Republic offers the “beer wellness land”.  Visitors can soak for 20 minutes in a tub of special bathing beer that is specially brewed to stimulate skin and internal organs whilst also sipping on a mug of the brewery’s own lager.  Finally a spa that will more than appeal to most men!

24-karat Gold Facial

This definitely doesn’t come cheap of course seeing as it is gold that is used in the treatment.  The gold-flecked serum is reported to lift, tighten and lighten skin whilst also reducing fine lines and wrinkles.  If this isn’t enough for you, is apparently also slows down collagen depletion that causes sagginess and helps fade age spots.  Well for $475 I would hope that is did all those things!!

Well, I think I will be sticking to the usual aromatherapy treatments thanks!
